It’s been a good run of twelve years, but we finally bought Momo a phone. We’re late, apparently, for her peer group; most of the kids in her grade last year were bringing phones to school. We had to strike a balance between being able to control her access to the internet while also allowing her the ability to go places with her friends on a whim, and figured we may as well take advantage of some of the last few years (months?) that she’s relatively tractable in order to set some expectations.

Let’s just hope she doesn’t use the appearance of this paradigm-shifting monolith to learn how to use tools and gain dominance over other apes– hey, actually, that metaphor works even better when you carry it a little more.

I hope y’all had (or are having) a restful holiday, if you get one. Ours was peaceful, and now in the last few days of the year I’m looking forward to doing precisely nothing. Thank you, as always, for spending the year with me and my family. It’s an honour to be a part of yours. <3
