Happy September! The first week of September brings back-to-school here, and Momo’s starting grade one tomorrow. I somehow managed to not do everything last minute – look, a week beforehand is pretty good, for me – but boy, are there a lot of problems you just kind of need to throw money at until they go away, huh?

I’ve got a lot of irons in the fire right now to bring in some freelance income (and some are REAL exciting!), but it’s so unstable that when the hits keep coming like this, it’s a little nerve-wracking. Last year, we were blessed with two steady incomes and felt like we could roll with the punches a bit, but this time every time we get hit with another back-to-school expense it’s like, geez, how many more of these can there be??

Answer: probably a lot, considering she hasn’t even started school yet. Anyway… kids are expensive, y’all.

This part of the year is rough on multiple fronts. I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with Momo this summer – shamefully, more time than I’ve spent with her since she was probably 18mo – and after the hell year she had in kindergarten, I can almost feel her flourishing under the 1-on-1 Mom Attention. It’s been giving me… a lot of feelings, not all of which are good, but the good ones are just gratefulness that I’ve been able to nurture this bond with her. And now she’s going back to school? Already?! But we just leveled up as a mommy-and-daughter pair! I need more time!
