Coming home from Edmonton last week, I thought we dodged the combination convention/back-to-school cold. Then I wavered on Thursday, Kev took a glancing blow, and by the next Thursday Momo was wiped off the map completely. There was only a little gloating that, yep, being sick just feels like this now – or worse!

I had to explain to her why this joke is funny – she didn’t get the SIMPSONS REFERENCE (because of course she didn’t, she’s practically never seen an episode of broadcast television. But: she’s currently learning first-hand how illnesses seem to feel a lot worse as you get older. I explained it as her “immune system being big and powerful”, but I’m not really sure if that’s actually the science. It has a truthiness to it, so… we’ll go with that. Combine that with her god-given right as a teenager to unearth previously untold depths of self-pity, and we had a stew of wretchedness all weekend.

Oh, no. A reason to stay indoors and catch up on my video games. The horror. How awful!
